John L. Vogelstein joined Warburg Pincus in 1967. Along with Lionel Pincus, who was CEO, they built and led the firm until 2002, when they turned the leadership over to Chip Kaye and Joe Landy. As Vice-Chairman and President, he was, in effect, the firm’s Chief Investment Officer. Together Mr. Pincus and he expanded the firm by 150 times from the $41.5 million raised for their first fund in 1971. During his tenure, John also led the firm’s expansion overseas in the 1980s and 1990s, establishing offices in London, Hong Kong and Bombay. Prior to joining Warburg Pincus, he was a Partner of Lazard Freres & Co. He is Co-Founder and Chairman of New Providence Asset Management, a money management firm established in 2003. He is Chairman of Third Way, a Democratic think tank, and serves on the boards of The New York City Ballet, The Miami City Ballet and The Hirschhorn Museum. He is Chairman Emeritus of the New York City Ballet, Prep for Prep, and The Taft School, and a Life Trustee of the Jewish Museum. He was a formerly a Trustee of New York University and the Stern School of Business. He attended Harvard University.
